It has been the driving force of the state of the USA in the 20's, in pursuing resources in the middle east, and the introduction of such plans as the Dawes Marshall and 5 year plans. However, economics has also led to buying on the margin which led to the American great depression of the 1930's.
Role of Women: The role of women throughout the twentieth century has underwent a vast change essentially transitioning from next to no rights to our modern day equal rights among both genders. This transition has surged through the introduction of cultural changes including the introduction of birth control and factory work subsequently permitting women such as Margaret Thatcher, Golda Meir, and Rosa Parks to draw attention to equality issues and force change. However, the history of the role of women is at times used mockingly and in a sexist manner.
Advancements in Technology: Advancements in technology in the twentieth century have led to a widespread desire from world superpowers to push forward in spending to assure security and world domination. The introduction of nuclear warfare following the Second World War has changed the state of world warfare immensely as military spending is through the roof. Mutually assured destruction although having a negative effect on those sought out by warfare, has also managed to protect countries from going to war. It has also however, put numerous countries in debt forced by the competition among nations. Advances in technology have become a detriment to the environment.
Ideologies: The varying ideologies of the twentieth century have impacted the morals, beliefs and values creating a barrier of conflicting views and interests between races. The communist, socialist, fascist and democratic views of the world superpowers are what have led to conflict and warfare but also what have defined nations throughout history.
Conflict: Human history is derived from human conflict. Looking back on the twentieth century, conflict has been the most prominent reality in history. Overshadowed by conflict however, is peace that did still go on during this timeframe.
Discrimination: Throughout the twentieth century, discrimination has created a divide among races through racial profiling, segregation, the holocaust, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Nuremberg trials and apartheid in South Africa.
